Student Assessments

Kahoot.jpg

At the start of this module, we began by exploring different types of assessments and worked together to create a mind map to show how each type of assessment can be used and which category each assessment belongs to.  We then designed our own formative assessment tasks and found ways to modify each assessment to ensure it is appropriate for all our students.  One such formative assessment I developed was a Kahoot quiz for practicing consonant blends.  Kahoot is a great online quiz which can be both fun and motivating for students.

Evaluating Student Performance

Differentiating Assessments and Communicating Results

In a previous module, we developed a Project Based Learning unit about food and culture.  We then developed a rubric that could be used to assess students throughout this PBL unit.  We also explained how we would monitor students throughout the project and how we could extend the topic for students that needed an extra challenge, and how we could further support students that were struggling to meet the rubric criteria.

For this unit, we researched and wrote about different intervention strategies and programs that we could use in order to provide additional assistance to particular students that are struggling academically.  We also used example student data to decide on heterogeneous and homogeneous groups based on student ability and interest and presented this information in the form of an infographic.

Differentiating Assessments and Communicating Results

We then explored ways that we could include accommodations or considerations in our assessment tasks that we had designed previously to ensure that students with special learning needs would be able to complete the assessment.  The final focus of this module was how we can communicate student assessment or performance data with parents, especially when communicating that a student is performing lower than the expected level.  We demonstrated how this could be communicated effectively using a story board.
