The Learner and Learning in a Digital Age
Understanding the Learner

Teaching Digital Citizenship
Throughout this module we learnt about how we can utilize technology in the classroom and maximize students learning potential. We began by interviewing other teachers to explore how they use technology in their classrooms, designing and carrying out age-appropriate 'getting to know you' surveys for our students, and then summarizing all our findings in a vlog. From this I was able to learn about some useful online tools to try in my classroom such as 'Blooket', and I also was able to learn a few things about my students that I had previously been unaware of. We also worked together as a cohort to create a padlet about student centred learning strategies where we also referenced numerous learning theories such as cognitive, constructivist, and behavioural learning theories.
We then explored skills that our students are likely to need when they enter the workforce in the future and how we can help prepare our students for a world that we have not yet experienced. Research indicates that social-emotional skills, problem solving and critical thinking skills will all be necessary for the workforce of the future. We then developed a case study about a student we teach that required differentiation in the classroom, and presented a number of strategies, activities, and appropriate uses of technology for that student in an Emaze presentation. We also learnt about the use of both virtual and augmented technology in the classroom and looked at ways to implement these in different lessons.
One of the most challenging aspects of this module was designing a game to use in the classroom. This was something that I had never thought of before and at first I struggled to come up with ideas, however by the end of the module I was able to plan and design a supermarket style phonics game to help students with letter-sound recognition. We also worked in groups to create a project-based learning theme that incorporated STEAM and 21st Century skills.
