Managing the Learning Environment

Transitions

Giving and Receiving Feedback

Personal Reflection and Next Steps

During this module we focused on ways of managing the learning environment and we created our own 'Learning Environment Plan' which we added to each week.  This covered areas such as strategies for creating a positive classroom climate, classroom norms and behaviour expectations, routines, procedures, and transitions, responding to traumatic stress in students, technology tools, and communicating with families.  Throughout this module we collaborated with members of our cohort to create a mind map of the different types of traumatic stress that a child could present symptoms of and strategies we as teachers can use to help a child in this situation.  We also collaborated to role-play a situation that demonstrates how we could deal with a disruptive student using various approaches, such as social-emotional learning.  Another aspect of this module that was useful was that we had the opportunity to view and discuss video lessons of other teachers and make observations in regards to how they manage their learning environment and which aspects of their teaching we would also like to incorporate in our own classrooms.
